Sustainability and tourism

Sustainability is increasingly highlighted in various sectors, and tourism could not be different. According to a survey carried out by Booking.com, 71% of travelers prioritize more sustainable travel and 38% said they research sustainable practices carried out by an establishment before confirming a reservation.

These demands for more sustainable tourism reflect a paradigm shift in travel preferences. Conscious travelers now seek experiences that offer not only rest and leisure, but also a respectful immersion in local culture and a positive impact on the areas visited. As environmental awareness increases globally, the demand for travel experiences that respect the principles of sustainability also grows.

These changes drive the transformation of the tourism sector towards more ethical and sustainable models, and the offer of products and services that meet these new criteria becomes essential. This means that they must minimize the ecological footprint and promote a more harmonious and beneficial relationship between tourists, local communities and the environment.

However, sustainable tourism is not limited to the mere visit to a paradisiacal environment, it involves much more than landscape appreciation, it also includes the search for accommodation and food environments that promote maximum sustainable practices, taking care to save water. and energy, adequate waste management and places that seek to balance gastronomic experiences with environmental and social responsibility. The greater the memorable tourist experience, the more sustainable practices tend to occur; the traveler will be able to return to their reality with new learning, which can generate changes in attitudes and contribute to a better world and also add value to the places visited.

Sustainable tourism is gaining more and more space as a driving force for the conservation of natural and cultural heritage and sustainable socioeconomic development. And while challenges remain, sustainable tourism represents a promising direction for the future, where enriching and responsible travel will be the norm, not the exception. And in doing so, ensuring that tourism continues to be a vital source of employment and prosperity for communities around the world.
